Working Out and Eating Right

September 27, 2013

When you exercise regularly, it almost always affects your eating habits.  Everybody’s mind and body react differently to exercise, but most eat healthier when they are involved in a regular exercise routine.
The simple fact is that you just took time out your day to exercise.  It could have been running, walking, spinning, yoga, aerobics, circuit training, weight lifting, or any other type of exercise.  Whatever you did, you burned calories, worked hard, and hopefully broke a sweat.

Majority of people exercise to lose weight, maintain weight, or be healthy.  So when it comes to eating, it mentally feels better to eat right before or after you exercise.  After enduring a very strenuous workout and burning calories, you want to eat better so you don’t counteract what you just did.  Although I suppose some think the exact opposite and feel they just burned 400 calories so they can now indulge in that huge delicious chocolate chip cookie, served warm with ice cream, hot fudge, and whip cream.  You know the one I am talking about.

Anyway, studies have show that most people have less of an appetite after a very strenuous workout , as compared to a moderate workout.  As we all know, eating right is important regardless of whether you workout regularly or not.  Eating the proper foods before and after working out can help with more energy, better workouts, and faster recovery.  There are literally thousands of studies done showing the best type of foods and drinks to consume before and after workouts.  There is some truth to it, of course, but everyone’s body reacts differently to different foods, drinks, and workouts.  The key is finding what works best for you.

There are a few things that can really improve your workout; eating right, getting enough sleep, and wearing the proper workout clothes.  As the weather is turning cooler, it’s important to stay warm by wearing the proper workout clothes that will wick the sweat away from your body.  LYCRA ® fiber shorts or pants are tight and will keep you warm.  You don’t want any cold air to get between your skin and your clothes.  It’s also important to wear an underwear wicking material beneath your workout clothes.   There is nothing better than a great workout while feeling healthy, energetic, and comfortable.
