Circuit training is a method of exercising that uses as many or as few stations as you want during a specified exercise time.  The beauty of circuit training is that you can workout for 20 minutes or an hour and still get a total body workout.

So, what are the benefits exactly?  Well, a huge benefit is that you can do this at the gym, or set up stations in the convenience of your own home.  If you have a designated workout space, it makes it easier of course, but you can get pretty creative even if you don’t have that much space.  Flexibility in time is another huge benefit for many busy people.  Not having enough time to exercise is a good excuse that many people use to not workout.  With circuit training, you can set the timer to 20 minutes, and go around your stations until your time runs out.

It’s the perfect way to get a total body workout with a flexible amount of time to do so.  Circuit training is also a great way to combine strength training and cardio.  For some people, doing all cardio or all strength training can become very boring.  When you get bored with your exercise routine, it makes it more challenging to get yourself to exercise routinely.  Circuit training takes the boredom out of exercising and adds some variety to your routine.  It’s also been proven that mixing strength training and cardio will boost your metabolism and you will burn fat and calories like crazy.  In fact, you will burn more calories in a 30 minute circuit training workout, than spending an hour on an elliptical.  Sounds like time well spent to me.

Circuit training may not be for everyone, but you can get creative, make it fit into your schedule, and make the workout work for you.  If you only have 30 minutes to work out, then use circuit training to get the most flexible, invigorating, calorie and fat burning workout you can possibly achieve.
